Samurai

Sumi ink and brush on 11x17 paper, March 1978 (yes, just over 30 years ago, so the aged paper is real)..."Shiki" border in psp7, my pattern.

i don't remember much about drawing this...there was no pencil rough if i recall (not sure about that), and i was playing around with "bad tangents" on purpose - where the lines of objects on differnt planes come close together or touch, creating distracting tensions etc according to theory, likewise the flauting of the rules by having the woman on the left just a hint within the frame...

breaking all these rules to create a mood of both spaciousness and unease, the uncertainty the Samurai lived in...
